Elsa Rouy is a London-based artist whose work is characterised by intense psychological depth. Describing her work as “a visual portrayal of abstruse emotions”, Rouy draws on her personal experience as a woman. Her work translates the concept of the grotesque in the visual, abject disparities of perspective within which human bodies are intertwined in contortions of pleasure and suffering.
Previous solo exhibitions include GNYP Gallery (Antwerp, 2024); Steve Turner Gallery (Los Angeles, 2023); Guts Gallery (London, 2022, 2021 & 2020) and Unit London (London, 2020). Selected group exhibitions include Palazzo Monti (Brescia, 2024); Larsen Warner (Stockholm, 2024); Arusha Gallery (London, 2023); EIGEN+ART Lab (Berlin, 2023); Castor Gallery; Kupfer; Roman Road Gallery; Gallery 64 Whitechapel (all London, 2022); Guts Gallery, The Shop at Sadie Coles (London, 2021); and Everyday Gallery (Antwerp, 2020), among others.
